Going home

Kerri struggled to hold all her things. She was coming home from work, at about 10 o'clock at night. Dangerous times in a dark alley, but her home unreachable without going through the alleys. Kerri was always cautious when going through the alleys, but after a while, she became less and less cautious because she had been working for three months now, and she hadn't been hurt in one of the alleys.

"Ma'am, do you need some assistance?" Angelo Ember asked.
He caught 2 of her bags before they hit the ground.

Kerri smiled.
"Thanks, got a lot to carry home. If only I had a dumb car," Kerri smiled, grateful of this man's help.
"What's your name?" She asked.

He smiled.
"Cars aren't that helpful here.." He said, looking down the street, where 2 men were stealing tires.
"Angelo. Angelo Ember." He said, and he had a hint of a spanish accent.

Kerri smiled.
"I guess not,"
"I'm Kerri, Kerri Harrison. Nice to meet you." She smiled, noticing a hint of Spanish.
"I would shake your hand, but they're kinda full..."

He smiled.
"That's fine, it'll just be a goodbye handshake."

Kerri smiled.
"So where do you come from?" She asked, tripping a little over a small rock, but caught herself.

"Originally? Mexico. And over the years I've lived everywhere..but I finally decided on here."

Kerri smiled.
"I've always been here, lived in the same area. My mom is disabled and my dad is great, he just works all the time to support her and her surgeries. I do most of the stuff around the house but it's not a problem really, I know that its the least I can do."

"John Harrison? The manager at RealTech?"

"Mm-Hmm, thats him! What, do you know him?" She asked with curiosity.

"He fired me a few weeks ago.." Angelo said, feeling awkward.
"Because I was about to retire, and now I don't get retirement..so.."
He looked down, still carrying the groceries.

"Oh, well, I'm sure he didn't want to. I can try to get you your job back. I think he said it was financial reasons, I don't know if you guys knew, but the company wasn't making too good of a profit." Kerri sighed.

"Oh, it's okay. I can afford my house from what I make off of pension. Trust me, I'm a superhero. I can afford everything." He said, with a slight smile, remembering the good old days.

Kerri cocked her head.
"You're super?" She asked, with slight admiration.

"Oh, I was. Have you ever heard of Flyboy?"
He smiled, remembering back when he could fly.

"Yes, yes, I do." Kerri smiled, remembering back when she was little.

"That was me." He said, quietly.

"Oh my gosh!!!" She exclaimed, but quietly, not wanting to wake anybody.
"Seriously? That is awesome!!!!"

He smiled.
"Yes, that was a long time ago."

"Eh, not THAT long ago," Kerri smiled, marveling the man

"50 or so years.." He said quietly.

"Not if I remember!" Kerri encouraged

"I don't have them anymore. The powers, I mean."

Kerri cocked her head."How did you lose them?" She asked

He looked down.

"I'm sorry, that was a personal question..." Kerri felt her cheecks flush red, not wanting to make him uncomfortable.

"It's alright." He said, looking up.

"Well, I don't want to intrude,"

"S'fine."
