Dealing with it

"You two ever meet a demon?" he asked, a question that seemed away from the subject.

"No, but aren't you half?" Bell questioned

Ruby was silent, still new.

JD glared at Bell, looking a bit hurt.
"Yes. And that's really it. Full-bloods, well, they\'re far nastier. I\'ve met my fair share of them.\"
He sighed.
"Yeah... I'm half demon." He sighed more forcefully.
"It's unpleasant, and I\'d hate for Paul to know: with age, I lose certain nice emotions, and those are replaced with the more unsavory type."
Red shone on his face for a few moments before suddenly fading.

"I'm sorry, I haven't met any demons or anything. I'm sorta new around." Ruby looked down a little.

"So you're saying that you think it's possible that you don't feel sad about Dina's death because most of the 'nice' emotions are gone?" Bell asked curious.

JD nodded at Ruby, looking more calm, but somehow embarrassed.
"Understandable."
He looked at Bell.
"Nah, some of them are here. Sorrow for certain (death) is one of the first things to go in this... process.."

Ruby listened more intently.
"So your emotions sort of change as you grow older? Like you lose and gain?" Ruby asked, trying to get the most out of it but felt really bad for JD. It must be frustrating for him

Bell shrugged, "That's well... more understandable." She looked at Ruby and smiled.

JD shook his head hard, making his blonde hair whip around.
"Just-just-just think of it as a second puberty. There. I said it."

"Yes because puberty is SUCH a silly word," She giggled.

JD chuckled a bit, blushing for the absolute second time in public.
"Yeah..."

"Well, the word fits into the context and the situation." Ruby raised her eyebrows. She found it funny how people had such trouble talking about that.

"Yes, it does. Me being a man of knowledge and science, I shouldn't find that the least bit awkward."
He paused.
"But I'm 19, so, yeah."

Ruby smiled and laughed a little. "Well," Ruby sighed thinking about the past conversation.

"You shouldn't but you do," Bell laughed "Don't worry I do too,"

He looked from Bell to Ruby.
"No worries... I think.. I can still be nice..ish."

"I don't think anyone can lose the trait of being nice once they have it. You may think that you have lost it but I think if you try hard enough you can manage. I haven't really met any demons before but..just..you can't ever lose hope."

JD nodded, looking glum.
"Yeah... Truthfully, I've only ever met one nice demon, and she's an ex of mine..
All the others are sons of bitches (if you pardon my french), including the one who was with Dina when she died."

"Well then you're almost one of a kind, JD, congratulations," Bell smiled from ear to ear.

JD raised an eyebrow.
"I might know who killed Dina, and you're complimenting my individuality?"

"Yes, I am, but finding her murderer is very important," She bit her lip, "Who do you think it is?"

"Erika had a vision about it. Who do you think it is? I remember exactly what Erika said. Erika said that he was fully silver, literally."

JD shrugged, then looked perturbed with himself.
"Ex of my ex. From about 800 years ago... Your fiance met him."
The last line was directed to Bell.
He looked at Ruby.
"What'd he look like?"

"Erika said that he was all silver, literally, ALL silver."

JD thought about it, then said,
"Yeah, I've met him. But he's a hero... Then again, Whuf."

Bell looked at him "Whuf?"

"So he could have switched or something?"

Bell looked at JD and Ruby, unsure.
