JD Dreyfus was on his back... building something.
It was a great mass of wiring and unknown substances, JD always sending a surge of energy from his fingertips into it every so many minutes.
    He hummed.
He hummed again, three notes, repeating.
After a few minutes of that, he banged the mass, and hummed again.
The banging seemed pointless, but suddenly, the machine hummed back!
    JD grinned.
"That's more like it! I'll fix you yet. You'll be fantastic!"
The machine made a slow, whirring noise and half shut down.
JD scowled, then sighed, his face smoothing out.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Long ways to go yet. You can't even properly hear me, can you?"
The machine attempted to turn itself back on, but failed.
    JD grimaced.
"Don't worry, my friend. I'll fix you."
He resumed working on the machine.

    Whuf appeared.
"Is it just me, or are you talking to a lump of metal?"
He asked this with a sneer.

JD sat up abruptly, almost banging his head on the mass.
He glared at the black-haired man.
"Yes. I am. What do you want?"

    Whuf shrugged.
"No reason. Why are you talking to the lump?"

    JD muttered something scathing beneath his breath, then said;
"Because it can hear me. That's why. How about you leave now, yes?"

    Whuf ignored that last remark.
    "Can it?"
Whuf leaned closer, for further inspection.
"OOOHHH... This is that computer of yours?"

"Yes," JD snapped, then went back to working on the disassembled computer.

    Whuf leaned back.
"Alright, alright... I meant no offense on the matter! And, uh... Sorry about your girlfriend... Cyborg, I mean..."

JD stiffened at the word 'cyborg'.

    Whuf snorted.
"Oh, REALLY now... Did you think no one would notice? It was PAINFULLY obvious. Her emotion centers went on the fritz MORE than once... And, uh, YES, she really DID have a soul."

JD was angry, but his pride made him shove it done his own throat, and focus on his work.

    Whuf sighed.
"You didn't..." Realization flashed across his face.
"You never... actually loved her, did you?"
    Whuf began to laugh hysterically.
"Oh, that is RICH. You thought you did, but you found that you DIDN'T! JD Dreyfus, the man who never felt love!!!"
    Whuf continued laughing, then vanished.

In one smooth movement, JD was out from under the super-computer, but Whuf was gone.
Gods, how he hated that man.
The only reason that he barely tolerated his presence was kinship.
(My kin, but I refuse to acknowledge it... Jackass...)
    JD sighed.
    (Eejit.)
JD randomly tugged at a strand of blonde hair, thinking.
"What would I do? I'd kill him, like my dad. Look at me(!). Talking to myself... Again."
    He looked at the super-computer.
    "Miss you, Johnson..."
JD left the workshop, his mind going nuts.
